How consolidation actually works
A consolidator books a container, collects cargo from several shippers at a warehouse near the port, stuffs it all together and hands one container to the carrier. At destination the container goes to a deconsolidation facility, your cargo is separated out and released against your documents. Every handover is a point where your cargo can be delayed by someone else’s paperwork.
- Cargo received at the origin warehouse before the cut-off
- Container stuffed once enough cargo is booked
- One master bill of lading, one house bill per shipper
- Devanning at destination, then release against your documents
